A Sunday Song – Where’s the Line

Where’s the Line to See Jesus ~ Becky Kelley

Christmas time was approaching; the snow was starting to fall,
Shoppers choosing their presents, people filling the mall,
Children waiting for Santa with excitement and glee,
A little boy tugged my sweater, looked up and asked me,

Chorus:
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday,
Why don’t we see Him more?

As I stood in amazement at this message profound,
I looked down to thank him, he was nowhere around.
The little boy at the mall might as well have had wings
As the tears filled my eyes, I thought I heard him sing,

Chorus:
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday,
Why don’t we see Him more?
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents,
But Christ gave His life for me.

In the blink of an eye, at the sound of His trump,
We’ll all stand in line at His throne.
Every knee shall bow down, every tongue will confess,
That Jesus Christ is Lord.

Chorus:
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
Is He here at the store?
If Christmas time is His birthday,
Why don’t we see Him more?
Where’s the line to see Jesus?
He was born for me.
Santa Claus brought me presents,
But Christ gave His life for me.

Just to be clear, I love Christmas! I love Santa. I love Christmas trees and stockings and lights and ornaments.

I also LOVE The Reason for the season.

I think there’s room for both. This song is a sweet reminder to me.

^Just received a placement yesterday. It’s a blessing to be working again but the internet here is very limited. I’ll post and visit you as the airwaves allow.

  1. Debbie, thanks so much for this song. I had not heard it before, but it is beautiful. I love Santa and all he represents — the love and giving and caring. But I think the reason I love him is because all of those things represent what Jesus wants each of us to be. And I love my Lord more than anything.

Just curious … did you ever see the Christmas card that shows Santa parking his sleigh in front of a church; and then inside the card, it shows him in the church kneeling to pray?

Missing your posts, and looking forward to the next. Praising and praying for your new placement. Take care, friend.

    1. Dear Drusilla –
I’m not certain if I’ve seen the card. It’s vaguely familiar.so I may have!
We used to have a town wide Christmas light display when I was little. One year my Dad (he was an industrial arts major in college) made a giant wooden cut out of a manger with baby Jesus etc… The rather unconventional manger had a chimney with Santa coming down! Pop had no problem with mixing metaphors or combining joyous celebrations! 😉
Thank you for faithfully reading, however sporadic my posts.:D

  2. WOHOO! Awesome. Oh to be that child again. I was that Child. I knew there was a baby Jesus, and i thought he was Santa. Actually, i knew we were supposed to give gifts to the baby, but somewhere in a child’s mind i knew I was getting something special every Christmas. Life. The opportunity to live. Such a sweet song. I love all the silliness and lights too! I miss Church on Christmas. Don and i are trying to decide if we want to give up our only free time away from the crowd that will descend upon his house in a week to pick a time for a service. It would be worth it. The singing, the colorful plants, and a little reminder of where Christmas all started. YAY for internet. Is Heidi Blogging? I don’t think i’m following any of her blogs.

Thanks for find the WEB, friend!!! xoxo mel

    1. dear melis –
Heidi posted today for the first time in quite a while.
Because our job is 24/7 every day of the year and since we work opposite shifts, Christmas will be very quite this year. Hope to get some baking done for the guys who are stuck out here on the rig over Christmas.
I think that little girl got it right – in your sweet innocence you understood the gift being given and the gift you gave by joyfully receiving it!

  3. I hadn’t heard that song . . .thank you so much! And I loved your wisdom too, in thinking there is room for both. 🙂 Yay Jesus, for your placement even if the internet is iffy. I’m with katherine above . . .it makes your posts even more special and a joy to get!
love and prayers for Merry Christmas, wrapped up in Jesus love.

    1. Dear Deb –
I found the song quite by accident while searching for something else entirely. Much the same way I found grace, actually, by searching for something else entirely.
Isn’t it marvelous how God gives us what transforms us rather than just what warms us!

    1. Thanks katharine, the job is indeed a blessing. This was a new song for me. I love traditional Christmas carols and hymns but I liked the inclusiveness of this one.

  4. Congratulations on receiving a placement. I need to find one of those. Where do they hand them out?

Christmas is just not my season but I am glad that others enjoy the season. I try to lay low until January rolls around.

May this placement be “Merry and Bright”.

    1. Dear PB – finding placement in this world is a challenge, that’s for sure! 😉
I’ve always had a holiday heart but these days I’m trying to learn to celebrate each day as the gift that it is – however oddly wrapped.
The placement is very ‘Merry and Bright’ tonight as my internet is alive and connecting in spite of the rather dubious one bar indicator!
Hang in there, friend! January is only19 days away!

  5. Wonderful message and song, Debbie. Santa indeed manages to get a toy delivered here and there, but Jesus makes provisions… such as forgiveness found at the Cross… or ‘a placement yesterday.’ Congrats and Praise the Lord for our needs that are met. God bless.

    1. MT – My very conservative Baptist parents always managed to make every holiday great fun without losing the significance – whether it was Christmas or Thanksgiving or Easter or the 4th of July. We celebrated and we remembered. It was a gift.
And thank you for your continued prayers. I’m very grateful to be employed once again! 😀 – and low and behold, tonight there’s even internet!
